Sermon by Father David Krause at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Temple, Texas on December 9, 2018.
Gospel according Luke. 3:1–6.
In the fifteenth year of the reign of Emperor Tiberius, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was ruler of Galilee, and his brother Philip ruler of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias ruler of Abilene, during the high-priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness. He went into all the region around the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins, as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah,
‘The voice of one crying out in the wilderness:
“Prepare the way of the Lord,
make his paths straight.
Every valley shall be filled,
and every mountain and hill shall be made low,
and the crooked shall be made straight,
and the rough ways made smooth;
and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.” ’

—Episode One of the Pipe Organs of South Carolina—
Brennan Szafron, Organist and Choirmaster of the Church of the Advent, Spartanburg, graciously allowed us to film him playing and speaking about the wonderful Flentrop pipe organ that was built in 1989.
Please wear headphones for best stereo sound.
Overview of different family of pipes and how the mechanical action works followed by:
Come Now Savior of the Heathens—Bach 8:13
Diptych—Denis Bedard 9:33
Prelude in G major, BWV 541–Bach 15:13
Little Fugue in G minor—Bach 20:50 (David Kiser Organ)
Inside the organ and an overview of the pipes around 25:25
This was the first time that I have played a mechanical action Organ. It was quite an experience. I did feel like I had more control over the production of sound. The non radiating pedal board was tricky as you could tell from the copious wrong notes.
Recorded with an old point shoot camera on the feet and LG G3 on the hands, also a webcam that wasn’t able to be added due to technical difficulties. Used a flimsy tripod. Slight delay in video for a few selections. Edited using Lightworks. Sound: Zoom H4n Recorder with Cad mics.
Special thanks to Tony Sane. Stay Tuned and please —Subscribe— for more Pipe organs of South Carolina.
