Nicky Henderson confident Might Bite can be Christmas King again at Kempton Park

Views:2385|Rating:5.00|View Time:2:21Minutes|Likes:12|Dislikes:0
Nicky Henderson believes his star staying chaser Might Bite was “flummoxed” when finishing last in the Betfair Chase at Haydock but he remains confident of his ability to bounce back in the 32Red King George VI Steeple Chase at Kempton Park on Boxing Day.

Speaking at the launch of the 32Red Winter Festival at The Pheasant Inn in Lambourn, he said: “He didn’t enjoy Haydock very much. There was a very good picture of him jumping the second fence which was the biggest one on the track. It flummoxed him. The picture shows he wasn’t jumping and he just landed on the top of it.”

Henderson continued: “He lost all rhythm and when you saw him around Kempton and Cheltenham the whole thing flowed. He never got into a rhythm at Haydock and it is a different track these days. I’m not blaming that – he should have done it, but he didn’t. Bristol De Mai was the one horse that jumped really well and he deserved to win.”

“We schooled him last Thursday and I spoke to Yogi (Breisner) and he agreed with me that he seemed to lose his rhythm. He will school again this week but he doesn’t need any remedial schooling – he just wants to get his confidence back a bit.”

Meanwhile Henderson’s other star chaser, Altior is “very unlikely” to join Might Bite in the race.

“We sat down after racing on Saturday as I knew on Sunday morning I was going to bombarded with ‘will he or won’t he’ questions about the King George,” Henderson said.

“I know Pat (owner) was very keen and she is braver than me, but I’m not for it and I think it is very unlikely. He won the Tingle Creek well but in that ground I can’t believe he didn’t have a hard race. When Un De Sceaux is burning it up on heavy ground you know you are going some gallop.”

“I just think trying to go three miles at this stage would be the wrong moment.”

The Jockey Club Chase Triple Crown can only be won by one horse and that is the Nigel Twiston-Davies trained Bristol De Mai who won the Betfair Chase for a second year running at Haydock.

“He’s in the form of his life,” said Twiston-Davies. “I couldn’t be happier with him since his win at Haydock. He proved at Haydock that he is not ground dependent.

The Jockey Club Chase Triple Crown, offers a £1 million bonus to any horse who can win at Haydock, the King George at Kempton and the Cheltenham Gold Cup in the same season.

Twiston-Davies added: “At the beginning of the season you want to win big races and it would be a huge bonus if we do pick up the three, but it has been proved that it is very difficult to do.

“He made a very bad mistake going away from the stands in the King George last year and that knocked him out of the race really. He was beaten just over 20 lengths, so hopefully he will be 20 lengths better this year.”

Recent Grade 2 winner, Politologue, will spearhead the Paul Nicholls’ team having had his form boosted by Charbel on Sunday at Huntingdon and the race’s most successful trainer will also have Clan Des Obeaux in the race.

Politologue will be tackling the three-mile distance for the first time, but Nicholls is confident that the extra distance will suit him. He said: “He has never run over three miles, but he has won over two-mile-five twice at Ascot.

“He likes going right-handed, he’s good on flat tracks and his form is red-hot now the horse he beat at Ascot (Charbel) won well in the Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon on Sunday. He is bred to stay. The other day at Ascot he travelled supremely well and I don’t see the trip being a problem.”

On his other 32Red King George VI Challenger, Clan Des Obeaux, he said “I was thrilled with Clan Des Obeaux at Haydock as at the weights he had no chance. He will be slightly better going right-handed as he just jumps out to his right a fraction. He has run well at Kempton before.”

“I just thought the way he ran the other day he can only improve – he has to, but not massively. It is exciting to have two nice horses to run in the race.”

Tickets for the 32Red Winter Festival at Kempton Park on 26 and 27 December are on sale from or 0344 579 3008.

(Bite Inhibition) Dog Training: How To Stop A Puppy From Biting And Train Dogs Not To Bite

How To Stop A Puppy From Biting And Train Dogs Not To Bite

Get the official 231 page BrightDog Academy Ebook Here:

Puppy biting and mouthing is a perfectly normal behavior, and it is not anything you should be worried about.how to stop a puppy from biting

A puppy that’s biting you is not being aggressive, or dominant, or trying to be the boss, he is simply being a puppy and behaving the only way he knows how.

Before you teach a puppy to reduce the frequency of biting (and eventually teaching him not to bite at all) you first much teach your puppy to reduce the force of his bite.

Teaching a puppy the power of his jaw is what we call bite inhibition, and it is something that must be done to ensure your dog is not dangerous as an adult.

You have probably noticed that your puppy has very sharp teeth, and there is a reason for this.

When your puppy bites down, even with a little bit of pressure, it can be quite painful because their teeth are so sharp.

Those sharp teeth are exactly what we use to teach our puppy how powerful their jaw is.

If you were to leave a litter of puppies with each other, they would teach one another bite inhibition.

When one puppy bites down on another puppy with to much force, that puppy would yelp, and the puppy that was doing the biting would stop and learn “that bite was to hard”.

Puppies naturally understand that high pitch yelp means “that hurt”, and if we left puppies with their litter mates for 4 – 6 months, they would teach this to each other and we wouldn’t have to worry about it.

Since most people tend to get their puppies between 8 – 12 weeks, and the litter mates are no longer around after that point, teaching bite inhibition now becomes the humans job.

When your puppy starts mouthing you, you are going to allow him to continue doing so.

Then you are going to wait for a bite that is a little bit harder then the rest.

The second that happens you are going to yelp, shriek, or make a startled sound, and then get up and walk away.

You don’t get mad at the puppy, you don’t say bad dog, you don’t do anything else besides what you just read above.

Simply make the sound that lets him know he hurt you, and then you walk away to show him that all play ends when he bites down with too much force.

After a couple of minutes come back and start playing with him again.

If he mouths you and it isn’t hurting to bad, let him keep mouthing you.

The second a bite has a little too much force, you yelp and walk away.

What we are teaching the puppy here is that when you bite down to hard it hurts, and the thing you enjoy (playing) stops immediately.

In the beginning you are only going to react when your puppy really bites down hard.

After a few weeks, you start reacting when your puppy bites down with even less pressure.

Then after a few more weeks you start reacting when your puppy bites down on you at all.

In the end you will have taught your puppy how strong their jaw is, and now in the future if your dog ever gives a warning bite ( most often this happens when your dog is sick or injured ) you won’t be at risk of getting seriously injured.

Now that we know our puppy has a safe jaw because we have taught him bite inhibition, it is time to start really working on teaching him not to mouth us at all.

The first step is to tell the puppy what we want them to bite, which in this case will be their dog toys.

Another thing that you can do to work on reducing the frequency of your puppy biting you is a reverse time out.

The second that your puppy puts teeth on you, you walk away, completely ignore him, say nothing, and isolate your self for about 10-15 seconds.

Go in a bedroom, bathroom, a closet, somewhere that your puppy wont be able to see you and can’t get to you.

When you do this you don’t get mad or angry at the puppy, you just simply walk away and stay completely silent.

After 10 – 15 seconds you come out of isolation and resume what ever you were doing

Again you aren’t angry or mad at the puppy, in fact you act like nothing happened at all.

Your puppy WANTS to be around you and WANTS to play with you.

When he gets too excited and bites you and you disappear every single time that happens, he learns that biting makes his favorite person go away and he will learn very quickly that biting is NOT a good behavior to repeat.

Unfortunately there is a lot of outdated information out there when it comes to handling puppy biting.

Here is a list of all the things NOT to do when a puppy bites you:

Roll them on your back and hold them there
Grab the back of there neck and shake them
Hold their mouth shut
Hit them underneath the chin
Bite them back (Yes I have actually seen trainers tell people to do this)
Put the puppy on a prong collar and give a leash correction every time they bite
Put the puppy on a shock collar and shock them every time they bite

Watch more How to Own a Pet Snake videos:

Find out if all snakes bite in this Howcast video about pet snakes.

Does every snake bite? Well, the simple answer is yes. The question really is, is what happens if you get bit by a snake? Now this little garter snake here, these guys are a little bit nervous and you need to make sure that you handle them properly, because they can bite you. Understand that all snakes have bacteria in their mouth that can be potentially dangerous. They carry salmonella. Salmonella is dangerous. So what happens if you get bit?

Well, most of the time these guys and even your larger, we have a ball python over here. We’ve got a boa constrictor in this guy. We’ve got a king snake over in this one. Well, if you get bit by any of those guys, they don’t have fangs. Everybody is worried about, “Hey, are they poisonous?” They really are not. Although, interesting enough the garter snake actually does have rudimentary glands, that are right where the vipers have their venom glands.

But if this guy bites you sometimes people will have a little bit more of an allergic reaction, because they do have these glands and when you get bit you’ll get the secretion. It is not a toxin. Most of the time it’s a little bit irritating and that’s it, but that’s one of the interesting things with this little garter snake if he bites you.

Now what do you do? The first thing you should do is calmly wash with warm soap and water and you call your doctor. Let them know that you got bit by a snake and then he will take it from there. It isn’t something that you want to take lightly, again because all snakes can carry salmonella, and several other different bacteria. So as friendly as these guys are if they accidentally nip you, you want to give your doctor a call.

WARNING: This is not where a dog’s training ends this is only a way to START bite work. If you post dumb comments about how my dog isn’t probably trained or that you always have to train with a second person I will not respond to your ignorance.

with that said…In this video we take a look at a beginner’s technique on how you can train your own dog to bite on command or attack on command. Dogs can be mans best friend but they can also be a deadly tool when trained correctly!
