Pet X Talks – Dr. Laurie Hess – The right exotic pet for you, your lifestyle and your pet

Views:22464|Rating:5.00|View Time:19:36Minutes|Likes:4|Dislikes:0
Dr. Laurie Hess, the Exotic Pet Vet gives us a Pet X Talk about deciding to get a exotic pet, the right exotic pet for you, your lifestyle and so much more. Dr. discusses a variety of exotic pets, there needs and considerations…

More About Dr. Laurie Hess:

Dr. Hess is one of approximately 125 avian (bird) specialists board-certified by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners and served as the President of the Association of Avian Veterinarians from 2009-2010. She is also an active member of the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians and the Association of Reptilian and Amphibian Veterinarians.

After graduating summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Yale University, Dr. Hess received her veterinary medical degree from Tufts. She then completed a one-year internship and a two-year residency in avian and exotic pet medicine and surgery at the world-renowned Animal Medical Center in New York City. Owner of only American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA)-accredited birds/exotic pet specialty hospital in NY and 1 of 7 worldwide.

Dr. Hess has lectured both nationally and internationally about exotic pet care and has published numerous articles and book chapters on birds and other exotic species.

She is especially interested in exotic pet nutrition. In the late 1990s, she completed groundbreaking nutrition research on the importance of pelleted diets in birds. She presented these findings both in Europe and in the U.S. and later published the research in 2002.

She regularly lecturers at the world’s largest veterinary conferences such as the Central Veterinary Conferences in Virginia, San Diego, and Kansas City and North American Veterinary Conference in Orlando, Florida, and the Western Veterinary Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. She also lectures at exotic pet specialty conferences such as that held annually by the Association of Avian Veterinarians and the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians.

As an exotic animal veterinarian, I am constantly asked by owners of all kinds of animals how to help solve pet behavior problems. From screaming birds to spraying bunnies, I have faced every imaginable (and some unimaginable!) exotic pet behavior problem. While animals of all kinds can bring us love and joy, they can also bring us frustration and stress if they develop behavior issues in our homes. If you’ve got an exotic pet behavior issue, I can help. But when it comes to cats and dogs, I defer to the experts.

Dr. Hess’ new book is: Unlikely Companions: The Adventures of an Exotic Animal Doctor (or, What Friends Feathered, Furred, and Scaled Have Taught Me about Life and Love) | By: Laurie Hess DVM

Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas

You Better Watch Out! He’s green…he’s mean…and he hates Christmas! The Grinch is a bad tempered hairy green creature, who live inside a cave atop Mount Crumpit, overlooking the village of Whoville. As the Whos of Whoville frantically prepare for their yuletide celebrations, The Grinch decides to put a stop to Christmas once and for all, and steals all their presents and decorations on Christmas Eve…only to finally come to learn that the true spirit of Christmas goes much deeper than tinsel and toys. The hilarious Jim Carrey spectacularly brings The Grinch to the life in this magical live- action comedy which is based on the wonderfully quirky and well-loved book “Dr.Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”
