Rhinoceros Beetles (Xylotrupes gideon philippinensis) are truly some of the most spectacular and majestic creatures of the insect world. This is why I was thrilled to add some beetle larvae to our growing menagerie of creatures in the ‘Antiverse’ (my Ant Room).

Back in October, when I first got the scarab beetle grubs, I prepared growth chambers for them, to house them as they developed into beetles. I was told they were going to emerge by Christmas time, but when both Christmas and New Year passed with no beetle in sight, I finally made the decision supported by your votes, to go in and look for them! What we discover in this video will truly amaze you, as well as my grand idea for us to have some fun with a beetle tournament.

Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

Special thanks to nature photographer and biologist Alex Wild for allowing his photos to be used in this video. Check out his amazing nature photography and order some prints:

Veterinary Rhino Dehorning Procedure | Wildlife Protection Solutions

Watch a rhino being dehorned by a team of veterinarians to protect it from poaching. Horns grow back over time, with recent studies claiming that the re-growth of dehorned rhino horn appears faster than growth in non-dehorned rhinos.

Some wildlife reserves believe this to be an effective deterrent against poaching, and are therefore removing rhino horns every 12-24 months.
