We welcome your comments on the open blog thread for this show.

YouTube comments are at present disabled in our channel, to the displeasure of some. However, each video has a prominent link to the associated open thread that appears on our blog. In the past we’ve tried opening up the channel to comments, but we found that a very high number of episodes wound up being flooded with a combination of spam, long winded apologists, and various obscene or misogynistic comments directed at various hosts by people with an axe to grind. This seems to be the nature of YouTube comment sections, in our experience.

We do moderate the blog, the same way that we moderate chat during the show, as well as comments on our Facebook group. For comment sections that are “officially” associated with our show (and, to a much lesser extent, channels that may give the unintended appearance of being official), we prefer not to play host to straight up ad hominem attacks and bigotry. As a general policy we do not block commenters simply on the basis of disagreement with our point of view. However, we do prefer discussion environments that don’t actively chase off more reasonable contributors.

WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?

The Atheist Experience is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.

The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.

We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

Too often we divide our lives into what is Sacred and what is Secular, but the bible says there is no division! Matt Chandler, senior pastor of The Village Church, helps uncover the truth and challenges you to break down the barrier between the two.

www.rightnowmedia.org

More about Matt Chandler:
Matt was born near Seattle and, due to growing up with a father in the military, moved several times before settling in the Houston area. Though he attended church during his childhood and adolescence, he did not truly know and follow Jesus until he turned 17. He went to Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas where he received a bachelor’s degree in Bible. While at Hardin-Simmons, he was on staff at Beltway Park Church. In 2002, he became pastor of First Baptist Church of Highland Village, now known as The Village Church. In 1999, he married his wife, Lauren, and they now have three children.

Jeffrey Selman: “Separation of Church and State” (8/5/2018)

Indivisible Columbus Georgia is proud to present Jeffrey Selman who shared with us his journey as a successful plaintiff in two cases in Cobb County, Georgia, involving separation of church and state.

Jeffrey was born in the Bronx, NYC. He worked for the US government in the “War on Poverty” as a VISTA with the Navajo. He earned a BA in History from Lehman College. He was both an elementary and a high school teacher. He switched careers later, becoming a COBOL programmer which brought him to Georgia. Here he met his wife and started a family. His son’s attendance in Cobb County public schools opened his eyes to the unconstitutional actions taking place there and in the local government. These events set him on a path toward protecting true freedom of belief that lets all people follow their own heart without inappropriate governmental intrusion.

In 2015, he published a book titled God Sent Me: A Textbook Case on Evolution vs. Creation. His goal was to inspire others to work toward protecting separation of church and state and valid science education.

Mr. Selman is affiliated with Americans United for Separation of Church and State, the American Civil Liberties Union and The National Center for Science Education. He was one of the original founders of the Rainforest Alliance out of NYC, A former President of the Vegetarian Society of Georgia and a Former Advisory Board member of Georgia Citizens for Integrity in Science Education. He is currently Co-president of the Atlanta chapter of Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

Selman has an impressive list of appearances including “Good Morning America,” “Nightly News with Tom Brokaw,” “Penn & Teller,“ “Nancy Grace,” “Fox News,” The French “Canal Plus,” “Atlanta Jewish Talk” on Air America and the BBC.

He has been Interviewed by print media including the “New York Times,” “Washington Post,” “Los Angeles Times,” “Time Magazine,” “Atlanta Journal Constitution,” “Marietta Daily Journal” and several Canadian, British, French, German, and Japanese newspapers.

A favorite quote of Mr. Selman made during the long drawn-out court cases: “Look, this isn’t what I want to do with my life. I want to plant trees in the backyard. I want to take my kid hiking. But there’s no way I’m dropping this. This is my life. Without freedom, we’ve got nothing.”

Thomas Muthee Sermon: Why Sarah Palin? October 16, 2005

Thomas Muthee, the man who led a movement that hounded a woman out of her hometown because Muthee believed she was supernaturally causing car crashes, has moved on. His new target: Sarah Palin. On October 16, 2005, Thomas Muthee delivered a sermon at the Wasilla Assemblies of God, the subject of which was “Why Palin?” Why Elect Sarah Palin Governor of Alaska? Ignore for the moment that church electioneering is against federal tax law. Let’s focus on Thomas Muthee’s reasons to vote for Sarah Palin. #1. Vote for Sarah Palin because she is one way for “God’s Kingdom” to “invade,” “infiltrate” and “influence” society. #2. Vote for Sarah Palin to install the Christian God and the Ten Commandments in control of the Public Schools. #3. Vote for Sarah Palin to combat and rebuke the forces of witchcraft. #4. Vote for Sarah Palin to end the separation of church and state in the United States of America. Thomas Muthee spoke it. Sarah Palin watched him speak it in the audience. Then she took the stage and as Muthee laid hands on her and she bowed her head, together they prayed for it. Is this what YOU want for America?

Over 1,000 people protested outside the federal courthouse for the Southern District of Texas in Brownsville on Thursday, decrying the separation of undocumented children from their parents.

American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) National Campaigns Director Natalie Montelongo was attended the protest. She said: “there was a recent injunction that happened two nights ago that demanded that children under five be reunited within 14 days and the rest of the children within 30 days, but we must continue vocalising our views and mobilising in action to make sure the administration implements that.”
