COLLAR GRAB – Teach your dog this important safety behavior – Dog Training

Views:36985|Rating:4.94|View Time:5:22Minutes|Likes:409|Dislikes:5
It is very important for your puppy to feel comfortable with being caught or grabbed when loose. At some point in your puppy’s life, he might be loose and someone might be trying to catch him, if he got lost for example. A lot of dogs without previous training, will be scared if a stranger tries to grab at their neck or harness and will run away, making it very hard to catch the dog, and potentially dangerous. Other dogs might bite the person’s hand out of fear.

We can teach puppies and dogs to feel comfortable and trust us when we grab their collar.

If your dog is aggressive, has bitten, doesn’t like being touched, or you are simply worried to touch the dog’s collar, get help from a professional dog trainer who uses positive reinforcement first.

This Down in motion is sometimes called the MOTION DOWN and is part of the “motion” exercises – including Sit in MOTION – STAND in Motion and DOWN in Motion. It is primarily used in competitive dog sports, but its a fun thing to teach your dog.

I think teaching your dog all the time and introducing new things to your dog is the best way to keep your dog engaged to you and sharp on learning new things. SO… just for fun, here’s the DOWN in MOTION.

Teach Your Dog to STAND – Dog Training Video – Robert Cabral – the STAND Command

Views:6844|Rating:4.91|View Time:13:37Minutes|Likes:461|Dislikes:8
The stand command is perhaps the most difficult to teach your dog because it seems un-natural to both the dog and people. If your dog is STANDing, he should be doing something or going somewhere, right?

Well if you are interested in competitive obedience, your dog will need to learn to stand on command and STAY there.

I address this in this video. I break down how to shape and reinforce the technique and how to proof it. I’ve had many requests for this video, so here it is.

Remember, teaching anything new to your dog takes time. Be very patient with your dog and give him or her a chance to learn and make it fun. Short – fun sessions are the best way to train any dog.

Teach your dog to DROP – Dog Training by Kikopup

Views:70777|Rating:4.87|View Time:6:57Minutes|Likes:890|Dislikes:24
In this free dog training tutorial, I will show you a technique I learned many years ago from my friend and dog trainer Kate Palese, for how to train a dog to quickly spit out the toy in his mouth. By training at the correct level of arousal and using errorless learning, you can condition the dog to drop a toy faster than lightening. I have not yet found a better way to teach such a clean and precise drop as of yet.

Once the behavior is trained, you can then use getting to play with the toy again as a reward.

The link to training the same behavior using a dog chew bone is here:

For the dog training ‘expert’, who shared a video of Sherlock here, along with the commentary “OMG!! … I don’t usually criticise other trainers, but LOOK at the poor dog!! … It isn’t ONLY about the destination, but the journey … God KNOWS what he’s been through??”

Well … Here’s your answer genius ….

Jamie penrith of take the lead dog training.
How do I train a dog? Through a healthy balance of motivation, based on reward training; consistent repetition of consequences; establishing boundaries and discipline early on; understanding what makes each dog tick and so developing a healthy relationship between my dogs and myself. The same consistent method – namely fair, situational training, with a committed undertone of enhancing welfare and establishing freedom through control. This might involve clicker; verbal marker training; whistle trained commands; slip lead or leash pressure; physical pressure; verbal and spatial pressure and e-collar pressure and a TON of love and respect for being the amazing animal that is the dog!
If you would like to build your relationship with your dog or young puppy; if you would like to learn more about how to train your dog to perform reliably and how to use a variety of different training tools to get the very best out of your relationship with your dogs; contact Jamie Penrith either through his website or email him directly at: [email protected]
